I have been going there even before it was Pirate's Den (we just called it Chuck's). The food is mediocre, but it's a beach bar - don't expect fine dining. I stick with the burgers and fries It's more of an "experience". The 3 mile wide Potomac River is amazing. Weekend atmosphere is, well, a party scene - especially after dark. The bands are very good. We generally eat at Tim's (large air-conditioned dining room alternative to the large outside deck - both with spectacular views) where the food tends to be better; but not fantastic.

Terrible service. Very unorganized wait staff. Place ran out of food at 11am and started up the gas grill to feed everyone hamburgers and hotdogs and would only take cash. Dont know how this place keeps any customers.

Excellent place to chill on a Saturday afternoon. Hush puppies and a Corona while sitting in the sun on "the beach". Even my wife who hates all Virginia seafood enjoyed her Shrimp platter ($25). Kid friendly (had toys on the beach).

I think this place has potential, but I definitely didn't see it today. We sat down at a table where a waitress came to clear the empty cups and bottles but didn't offer to get us drinks or give us menus. After 10-15 minutes, we got up and moved to a different table closer to where we saw a lot of other waitresses. We waited for 20 minutes at that table. Granted, it's Memorial Day weekend, but there seemed to be a lot of wait staff buzzing around. A lot of the people there were just drinking, so were standing around. It was warm in the sun. We at least wanted some water. Eventually we went to the bar to get our drinks. After 20 minutes, we had to flag someone down to ask them to send a waitress over. When she came over, she apologized and said it wasn't her section, but offered to get us water. Someone else brought the water. When our waitress finally did show up, she wasn't very friendly and seemed annoyed at us. (By this point it had taken a total of about 45 minutes just to be acknowledged.) She didn't come back often to check on us. When my friend ordered another drink, she gave up after 35 minutes and, again, went to the bar to get it. The waitress, perhaps sensing our irritation, made excuses and blamed it on other people. Twice. At one point, we were all looking at her trying to get her attention to come over. She was standing near the bar with another waitress, looking at us and talking, but not coming over. I might accept that someone else messed it up or that you're really busy if I can't clearly see you standing around not doing anything. Being that it's Memorial Day weekend, we anticipated that it would take a little longer. But we didn't think it would take nearly 3 hours from the time we sat down to the time we paid our bills. And for all of that, the food was just mediocre. I think I definitely prefer Tim's (a nearby establishment) better.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I went there on Mother's Day and several times before. The service is friendly, almost like being with family and the atmosphere is impeccable! Sitting on the beach eating seafood while watching my kids run around barefoot in the sand, sipping on an umbrella drink is my idea of a relaxing and fun environment. It's seafood so it's a going to be on the pricey side that's why I don't go there every night or I would!

Ashley and Alex have created a unique river front restaurant that is clean, well decorated, equipped with fans and sprinklers when it's Virginia hot, excellent entertainment, well stocked outside bar and tasty seafood dishes! Access from a car or boat you will not be disappointed.

We're avid boaters so we ride here every weekend. We start out with drinks and a meal and then hang out in the water near out boat after with friends. The drinks are good, food is great for a beach bar and the staff is super friendly. Lots of room to hang out, sandy area for kids to play, always great music by live bands. We love Rick's!

They got a live country band playing tonight. Not really into country but it'll do. Their shrimp po boy is amazing. I had to get it twice the first time I came here. Other foods here seem amazing and I'll have to come back to try it all.

Decent food, excellent atmosphere, but the staff I encountered, about 4 different employees, all didn't seem to know what planet they were on. Go here if you have a lot of patience. I left an angry customer. I'm very easy to please and it seemed no one wanted to go above and beyond to please, let alone do the bare minimum to please. With such an amazing restaurant/location, it baffled me no one cared. I even wanted to buy a tshirt, which for any restaurant is walking advertisement, I was not assisted the way I should have been. Staff members did not even know prices of the merchandise. I got irritated, threw the shirt down and left.

It took 30 mins for anything! And that's EACH THING! Our server apologized each time but I saw her doing nothing several times while I waited for water each time she brought the water it was seltzer that twice, the third time I finally got real water...ugg. I like to give places a second chance but this was the worst EVER.

Exactly as expected! Great beach bar and location on the water. Beer was cold, the burger easily moved into my top 5 in the area, hands down. Our server, Chris was awesome, give this guy a raise stat! He made sure we always had a cold one even on a hot day, and went out of his way to ensure we had a great experience. People watchers will love this place, a few odd birds mixed in makes for a interesting time. Live music sounded great, not a bad seat in the place! Keep doing your thing Ricks, we will return!

I've been here a few times this summer and it's great! I really like the laid-back atmosphere and the fact it's right on the water. Some of the sunset views have been phenomenal! The service has been friendly, they certainly keep the drinks coming. The only thing that stopped me from giving Ricks 5 stars is that the food is hit-or-miss. When we've been we have ordered the crab dip which is delicious. The nachos another time were served cold and not very desirable. The Alaskan Crab legs are overpriced for the size. Limp/soggy fries. Given the fact that the place itself is very fun and laid back I definitely recommend checking it out on a nice day. They offer live bands on occasion (I think weekends only?) and corn-hole. It is also kid-friendly. Hopefully we get another time to enjoy Ricks before the cold sets in!

NO STARS! Don't go here! I am very disappointed to the point I will not return. We have been bringing our children and now our grandchildren here for 20 years, back when it was the Pirates Den. I was wrongly identified and ask to leave for something I DID NOT do. Guess it's back to Tim's!

Great place to go to listen a band and get that beach vibe!!

Atmosphere was very nice. If you like sitting out on the sand. Food was average. Crab cake appetizer was delicious.

We were a little scared to try this place because we heard it was a young crowd. I am glad we did try it! I had been going to Tims River Shore for years wish I had tried this place years ago! The atmosphere is nice the wait staff is friendly and fast. The food is unbelievable!! The pulled BBQ is the best I have ever had along with the crab dip! This place is a must try you will not be disappointed!

The atmosphere here is fun - nice beach setting with picnic tables and everything so you can eat outside and enjoy the sun. Live music regularly. The food is pretty good & the drinks are too. The Bloody Mary was very good, and I wanted a frozen margarita but the blender was broken - maybe next time. I had the shrimp PO boy sandwich with fries, which was good. They have buckets of beer (you can't go wrong with that!) and the setting gets even better when the weather gets hotter. Looking forward to spending more afternoons here this summer.
